Game Recap
The Miami Marlins secured a hard-fought 5-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals, consistently answering St. Louis's scoring efforts to maintain and extend their lead. The home team pulled ahead in the middle innings, building a multi-run advantage that ultimately withstood a ninth-inning rally.
St. Louis opened the scoring in the fourth inning when Winn's sacrifice fly brought Walker home. Miami quickly responded in the bottom half, tying the game on Edwards' ground rule double that scored Stowers. Agustin Ramirez then gave the Marlins their first lead with a 411-foot solo home run in the fifth. The Cardinals drew even in the top of the sixth after a wild pitch by Faucher allowed Walker to cross the plate.
The Marlins, however, did not allow the tie to stand for long. In the bottom of the sixth, Lopez's double drove in Stowers, pushing Miami back into the lead. Hicks followed with a single that scored Lopez, extending the advantage to two runs. This two-run surge in the sixth proved pivotal, creating separation after the Cardinals had leveled the score. The Marlins added another insurance run in the eighth when Hicks again singled to bring Lopez home, providing a cushion for the final frame. Marlins starter Max Meyer delivered a strong outing, fanning eight batters over 5.1 innings while allowing only two earned runs, which kept the game tight early.
Ultimately, the Marlins' ability to generate offense in response to St. Louis's challenges, especially in the crucial sixth inning, allowed them to secure the win. The Cardinals managed to pull one run back in the ninth on Urรญas's sacrifice fly, but it was not enough to overcome Miami's lead. Following the result, the St. Louis Cardinals now stand at 65-64, while the Miami Marlins improved to 65-64.
