Game Recap
The Chicago White Sox secured a narrow victory over the Washington Nationals, responding to multiple challenges and taking the lead late in a tightly contested matchup that ultimately ended in a one-run decision. Despite trailing for much of the game, Chicago consistently found ways to counter Washington's scoring.
Washington initially took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when GarcΓa Jr. hit a sacrifice fly. Chicago responded in the fourth with a solo homer from Murakami to tie it. The Nationals then regained a two-run advantage in the fifth with a bases-loaded walk by Lile and a fielder's choice by House. Erick Fedde's solid outing, allowing just one earned run over 5.2 innings, kept the White Sox within striking distance, and Chicago began chipping away, scoring in the sixth on a Montgomery single to cut the deficit to one.
The seventh inning proved pivotal, as Chicago scored two runs to take their first lead of the game. Peters' bunt single, combined with a throwing error by pitcher Cornelio, allowed Antonacci to score the tying run. Benintendi then hit a sacrifice fly to put the White Sox ahead 4-3. Washington, however, refused to yield, as Brady House launched his second solo home run of the game in the top of the eighth to knot the score at four. But Chicago immediately answered in the bottom of the eighth, with Antonacci hitting a sacrifice fly that scored Vargas, who had reached via a walk, sealing the win.
Despite Washington's repeated efforts to maintain or regain the lead, the White Sox capitalized on opportunities and executed small ball plays to emerge victorious in a game defined by constant shifts in momentum. The Nationals now hold a 60-67 record, while the White Sox improved to 66-58.
