Seattle Mariners vs St. Louis Cardinals — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Seattle Mariners secured a narrow road victory over the St. Louis Cardinals, breaking a late-game tie with a decisive solo home run. After taking an early lead, then seeing it erased by St. Louis, the Mariners relied on a power surge to provide the margin of victory in a tightly contested matchup.

Seattle opened the scoring in the second inning when Young singled to center, bringing Arozarena home. The Mariners extended their lead to 2-0 in the top of the fourth on Canzone's single to left, which allowed Naylor to cross the plate. However, the Cardinals responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning, as Winn singled to right, scoring both Walker and Gorman and knotting the game at two runs apiece.

The game remained deadlocked until the top of the sixth inning when Josh Naylor stepped to the plate. He launched a 418-foot solo home run to right-center, putting Seattle back in front 3-2. This pivotal blast proved to be the game-winning run, with neither team managing to score again. St. Louis starter Andre Pallante pitched 5.1 innings, striking out eight batters, but ultimately surrendered all three Mariners runs, including Naylor’s go-ahead homer.

Seattle's timely hitting, particularly Naylor’s powerful swing, allowed them to overcome the Cardinals' mid-game rally and secure a crucial win on the road. The Mariners now hold a 60-66 record, while the Cardinals' record stands at 64-62 after the loss.
