Diaz connected for his second homer of the game, a two-run shot, putting Tampa Bay back in front. Immediately following, Aranda launched a solo home run. The offensive onslaught continued as Dunnβs bunt single scored Caminero, and Palacios then cleared the bases with a two-run triple. Fortes capped the monstrous inning with a sacrifice bunt, pushing the lead to six. The Angels mounted a three-run rally in the eighth, with Grissom, Adell, and Meckler each driving in a run, but it was not enough to overcome the Raysβ surge.
Tampa Bayβs relentless seventh-inning offense proved too much for the Angels to overcome, turning a narrow deficit into a comfortable lead in a matter of outs. The Rays now stand at 75-49, while the Angels' record moved to 49-77.
