The Minnesota Twins, entering as underdogs, secured a 5-3 road victory against the Seattle Mariners, relying on a series of late-game power surges to overcome an early deficit. Clutch hitting in the seventh and eighth innings propelled Minnesota to the narrow win, upsetting the favored home team.

Seattle struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Raleigh’s ground rule double brought home Arozarena and Canzone, putting the Mariners up 2-0. Minnesota quickly responded in the top of the second, as Brooks Lee homered to right, scoring Bell and tying the game. The Mariners immediately reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the frame with Young’s solo shot to right center, making it 3-2.

The momentum shifted decisively in the late innings, with Minnesota's offense coming alive. After five innings of work from starter Zebby Matthews, who struck out 10 but allowed three runs, the Twins' bats took over. Lewis launched a 419-foot homer to left center in the top of the seventh, knotting the score at 3-3. Later in the same inning, Keaschall doubled to left, driving in Roden and pushing Minnesota ahead. Jeffers then provided an important insurance run in the top of the eighth, hitting a solo home run to left field.

Ultimately, the Twins’ ability to find their power stroke late in the game, combined with solid relief pitching after Matthews' strong but brief outing, proved to be the difference against the favored Mariners. Minnesota now holds a 57-55 record, while Seattle falls to 53-59.
