Game Recap
Colorado secured a narrow 3-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals, relying on early offense and a strong pitching performance to maintain their lead throughout the contest. A three-run outburst across the first four innings proved to be enough for the Rockies, as they kept Kansas City's bats largely silent.
The Rockies wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard. In the bottom of the first inning, Moniak crossed home plate on Rumfield's single to right field, putting Colorado up 1-0. The lead expanded in the fourth inning when Karros scored on a throwing error by Royals second baseman Massey, which also allowed Johnston to reach second base. Doyle then doubled to left field, driving in Johnston and giving Colorado a 3-0 advantage. Kansas City finally broke through in the sixth, courtesy of Carter Jensen's 424-foot solo home run to right.
The critical sequence came in the bottom of the fourth, when Colorado pushed across two runs to build a substantial three-run cushion. While starter Michael Wacha delivered a solid outing for the Royals, striking out seven and allowing just one earned run over six innings, Kansas City's offense struggled to capitalize. Jensen's long ball represented the entirety of the Royals' scoring, highlighting their inability to generate sustained pressure against Rockies pitching. The early scoring plays for Colorado proved decisive.
Ultimately, the Rockies' ability to capitalize on an error and string together a pair of timely hits in the early innings created an insurmountable lead. Their pitching staff then effectively neutralized the Royals' lineup for most of the game, allowing them to secure the win. The Royals fell to 46-66, while the Rockies improved to 44-67.
