New York Mets vs Chicago Cubs — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Chicago Cubs overcame an early deficit with a decisive three-run home run and a strong pitching performance to defeat the New York Mets.

The Mets initially took the lead in the second inning when Vientos homered to left center. However, the Cubs quickly responded, with Happ launching a solo shot of his own to center in the bottom of the same inning, immediately tying the game. The score remained deadlocked for several frames as both pitching staffs held firm, creating a tense stalemate.

The game's pivotal moment arrived in the bottom of the sixth when Carson Kelly blasted a three-run homer to left center, driving in Happ and Suzuki and giving Chicago a crucial 4-1 advantage. This marked the largest scoring inning of the contest. On the mound, Jameson Taillon delivered a quality start for the Cubs, pitching six innings and allowing only one earned run while striking out four, effectively stifling the Mets' bats for much of the contest. The Mets managed to scratch across another run in the eighth inning when Bichette scored, reaching home on a throwing error by second baseman Hoerner, but it wasn't enough to overcome Chicago's lead.

Ultimately, the Cubs' timely power hitting, anchored by Kelly's blast, combined with solid work from their starter, proved to be the difference in securing the win. The Chicago Cubs now stand at 73-53 on the season, while the New York Mets fell to 56-70.
