πŸ“°Game Recap

Tampa Bay secured an 8-7 extra-innings victory over Pittsburgh, overcoming an early four-run deficit and then prevailing in a back-and-forth battle that saw multiple lead changes in the late innings. The Rays staged a five-run rally in the fifth inning to erase Pittsburgh's early advantage before Cedric Mullins delivered the decisive two-run home run in the 13th.

The Pirates quickly established control, with O'Hearn launching a two-run homer in the first inning. Ozuna extended Pittsburgh's lead to 4-0 in the fourth with another two-run shot. However, the Rays responded powerfully in the top of the fifth. Caminero doubled home Feduccia, followed by Aranda's single that scored Caminero. DeLuca then knotted the score with a two-run double, and Mullins capped the outburst with an RBI single, giving Tampa Bay a 5-4 lead. Pittsburgh managed to draw even in the bottom of the eighth when Yorke singled home Lowe.

Pittsburgh's strong start was anchored by Paul Skenes, who stifled the Rays for four scoreless innings, striking out five batters. This strong pitching set the stage for the Pirates' early lead before Tampa Bay's fifth-inning offensive explosion flipped the script. The game remained deadlocked after the ninth, sending it into extra innings. The Rays took a 6-5 lead in the 11th after Walls scored on an error by pitcher RamΓrez, but Pittsburgh immediately answered in the bottom half as Griffin grounded into a fielder's choice, scoring Yorke to re-tie the game at six.

Ultimately, the Rays' persistent offense proved too much for the Pirates to contain. Following the repeated ties in extra innings, Mullins stepped up again in the 13th, crushing a two-run home run to right center field, providing the final margin of victory despite a subsequent RBI single by Griffin in the bottom of the inning. Tampa Bay improved its record to 75-49, while Pittsburgh fell to 61-66.
