πŸ“°Game Recap

The St. Louis Cardinals secured a hard-fought road victory, building an early and substantial lead that ultimately proved resilient against a determined late-inning rally from the Houston Astros. They methodically accumulated runs across six different frames before Houston’s offense found its rhythm.

St. Louis quickly established control, plating two runs in the top of the first inning on a Gorman single, which was extended by a fielding error from right fielder Smith. Yordan Alvarez responded immediately for the Astros with a 421-foot solo home run to center in the bottom half. The Cardinals continued to pull away in the third when Winn launched a two-run shot to left, followed by solo homers from FermΓn in the sixth and Burleson in the seventh. A wild pitch from Gordon in the eighth allowed UrΓas to score, pushing the visitors' advantage to 7-1 before Houston scratched across a run on a double play in the bottom of the frame.

Despite Houston's three-run ninth inning, which represented their largest scoring frame of the game and featured Shay Whitcomb's 407-foot, three-run blast to center field, it was the Cardinals' consistent offensive pressure that shaped the contest. St. Louis scored in six of the first eight innings, steadily building a lead that became too much for the Astros to overcome. Andre Pallante was instrumental for the Cardinals, stifling the Astros' offense through the middle innings by allowing just one earned run over 5.0 innings while striking out five.

The Cardinals' ability to generate offense consistently throughout the majority of the game, coupled with strong starting pitching, provided a cushion robust enough to withstand Houston’s final push. St. Louis now holds a 65-61 record, while the Astros stand at 63-63.
