Detroit Tigers vs Boston Red Sox — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Detroit Tigers defeated the Boston Red Sox 4-1, relying on a standout pitching performance from Tarik Skubal and a decisive three-run fourth inning to secure the road victory. This low-scoring affair saw the Tigers maintain control after establishing an early lead.

Detroit initiated the scoring in the top of the first when Kerry Carpenter drew a walk with the bases loaded, allowing McGonigle to cross home plate. The Tigers then broke the game open in the fourth inning. Carpenter launched a solo home run to right field to start the surge. Later in the same frame, Rogers hit a sacrifice fly that brought Pérez home, followed by McGonigle's single to right which scored Báez, extending Detroit's lead to four runs. Boston managed their only run in the bottom of the fifth on a double play, as Wong grounded out to bring Abreu home.

The turning point for the Tigers was their three-run outburst in the fourth, highlighted by Carpenter's solo shot and two subsequent RBI plays that built an insurmountable lead. While Detroit's offense provided timely scoring, it was the dominance of Tarik Skubal that truly stifled Boston. He carved through the Red Sox lineup, striking out 10 batters over 6.0 innings while surrendering just one earned run. Skubal’s command ensured Boston could not mount any significant threat against the early deficit.

Ultimately, Detroit's success stemmed from the powerful combination of Skubal's masterful pitching and a concentrated offensive effort in the middle innings. The Tigers capitalized on their opportunities, particularly in the fourth, to keep the Red Sox at bay throughout the contest. With the win, Detroit improved its record to 61-64, while Boston fell to 66-59.
