๐Ÿ“ฐGame Recap

The Washington Nationals leveraged an early offensive surge and timely responses to New York's scoring, securing a home victory over the Mets. Washington established control from the outset, never relinquishing the lead as New York struggled to mount a sustained rally.

The Nationals quickly grabbed the lead in the bottom of the first when Abrams launched a three-run homer to right center, bringing home Mead and Chaparro. New York trimmed the deficit to two in the second on Baty's single that scored Vientos, but Washington immediately answered as Ruiz singled in Nuรฑez. Juan Soto then hit his first homer of the game in the third, a solo shot to right, making it a two-run game once more.

Washington extended its advantage in the sixth inning, first on a sacrifice fly from Lile that scored Abrams, followed by Nuรฑez's sacrifice bunt that plated Crews, pushing the lead to four. Although Soto's second home run in the top of the eighth, a two-run shot also bringing in Bichette, brought the Mets within two runs, Washington quickly squashed any comeback hopes. Young responded immediately in the bottom of the eighth with a two-run homer to left center, scoring Lile and re-establishing a four-run cushion. Zack Littell delivered a solid start for the Nationals, pitching five innings and allowing only two earned runs.

Ultimately, the Nationals' ability to generate offense from multiple spots in their lineup and their crucial responses to New York's scoring efforts proved to be the difference. Despite Juan Soto's two home runs, the Mets could not string together enough offense to overcome Washington's consistent pressure. The Mets now stand at 57-71, while the Nationals improve to 61-67.
