Toronto Blue Jays vs New York Yankees — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Toronto Blue Jays secured a narrow 2-1 victory over the New York Yankees on Friday, with right-hander Trey Yesavage dominating on the mound and the offense providing just enough support in the later innings to clinch the road win.

Yesavage stifled New York through six scoreless frames, allowing the game to remain deadlocked until the seventh. Toronto finally broke the scoreless tie in the top of the seventh when Ernie Clement scored on an Andrés Giménez walk, giving the Blue Jays a one-run lead after a challenged pitch call was confirmed. Later in the inning, Guerrero Jr. hit a sacrifice fly to right field, bringing home Brandon Valenzuela and extending Toronto's advantage to two runs.

Yesavage's stellar outing, featuring eight strikeouts and no earned runs over six innings, proved pivotal in keeping the powerful Yankees lineup at bay. His performance ensured that Toronto's two-run seventh inning was sufficient, setting the stage for the bullpen to close it out. New York managed to get on the board in the bottom of the ninth when Paul Goldschmidt grounded out to the pitcher, allowing Bellinger to score, but the rally ultimately fell short of changing the outcome.

Ultimately, a combination of exceptional starting pitching and timely hitting propelled the Blue Jays to a hard-fought road victory in a low-scoring affair. The win moves Toronto's record to 62-65, while the Yankees now stand at 69-56.
