Chicago Cubs vs Pittsburgh Pirates — Recap

📰Game Recap

Pittsburgh secured a narrow 2-1 victory over Chicago in a contest dominated by pitching and decided by a late solo home run. The Pirates broke a tie in the seventh inning and held on to win, ensuring a tight affair came down to a single decisive swing of the bat.

The scoring began in the third inning when Lowe delivered a double to left field, bringing Horwitz home to give Pittsburgh the initial lead. Chicago responded in the fifth, evening the score as Michael Busch launched a 409-foot solo home run to center field. The deadlock persisted until the bottom of the seventh.

Despite a stellar outing from Chicago right-hander Ben Brown, who pitched six innings and struck out seven while allowing only one earned run, the Cubs' offense could not capitalize further. Brown kept his team in the game after giving up the initial run, but Pittsburgh's pitching staff also stifled Chicago's bats. It was a 413-foot home run to left field by Davis in the seventh inning that ultimately broke the 1-1 tie, providing the Pirates with the decisive run in the low-scoring contest.

In a game where runs were scarce, Pittsburgh's ability to generate just enough offense through two key extra-base hits allowed them to prevail. Their pitchers navigated a tough Cubs lineup, holding them to a single run. The Pirates improved their record to 62-65, while the Cubs now stand at 72-54.
