Game Recap
The Colorado Rockies defied significant odds on Tuesday, traveling to Milwaukee and stunning the heavily favored Brewers with a 5-2 victory, an outcome few would have predicted given the teams' disparate records. The underdog Rockies wasted no time asserting themselves, jumping out to an early lead in the very first inning. Ezequiel Karros scored the game's first run on a double to left by Michael Carrigg, who then came around to score himself on a single from Kris Goodman, putting the Rockies up 2-0. However, Christian Yelich quickly answered for Milwaukee in the bottom of the first, launching a 413-foot solo home run to center field, cutting the deficit to one and signaling the Brewers' intent.
The Rockies, however, refused to be reeled in. They continued to apply pressure, extending their lead in subsequent innings. In the top of the third, Karros delivered again, singling to right field to score Elias McCarthy, though he was caught stretching at second base on a play that was ultimately upheld after a Colorado challenge. An inning later, in the top of the fourth, Brendan Moniak added another run with a sacrifice fly to center, plating Elehuris Castro and pushing Colorado's advantage to 4-1. Throughout this period, Rockies starter Tomoyuki Sugano proved instrumental, navigating the Brewers' lineup effectively.
Brewers infielder Brice Turang provided a spark for his team in the bottom of the sixth, crushing a 434-foot solo home run to center, pulling Milwaukee back within two runs and capping off a strong individual performance that saw him collect three hits on the day. But the Rockies responded with an insurance run in the top of the seventh, as Alan Rumfield doubled to right, scoring Moniak and restoring their three-run cushion. Sugano's solid outing, spanning 5.1 innings with five strikeouts and just two earned runs allowed, proved to be the backbone of Colorado's upset win over the National League Central leaders.
How the Prediction Fared
Pregame, the market favored the Milwaukee Brewers (-246, 68% implied) over the Colorado Rockies. Final: the Colorado Rockies won 5โ2, pulling off the upset.
