The Arizona Diamondbacks, entering play with a 55-51 record, lived up to their pregame billing as favorites against the 54-52 Washington Nationals, securing a tight 3-2 victory. What began as a promising offensive start for Arizona quickly evolved into a back-and-forth affair, ultimately decided in the late innings.

The Diamondbacks were the first to break through, putting two runs on the board in the top of the second inning. It started when Tawa reached base on a bunt single, allowing Kepler to score the game's first run and moving Locklear to third. The next batter, Marte, grounded into a fielder's choice to first, which brought Locklear home, extending Arizona's lead to 2-0. The Nationals challenged the call at second, but the on-field decision was upheld, keeping the score at 2-0.

Washington, however, wasted no time in mounting a comeback. In the bottom of the fourth inning, rookie sensation Dylan Crews launched a 405-foot home run to left center, bringing Abrams home and completely erasing Arizona's lead. The two-run shot knotted the game at 2-2, showcasing Crews' impactful performance that included two hits, a home run, two RBI, and a run scored on the night.

The tie held until the top of the seventh inning when the Diamondbacks found their decisive run. Moreno hit a sacrifice fly to left field, allowing Marte to tag up and score, pushing Arizona back ahead 3-2. Diamondbacks starter Eduardo Rodriguez delivered a solid outing, pitching 6.0 innings and allowing just two earned runs while striking out four, setting the stage for his team to close out the narrow victory as the pregame favorite ultimately prevailed.
