πŸ“°Game Recap

The Cincinnati Reds, entering Monday's contest as significant underdogs against the favored St. Louis Cardinals, delivered an upset victory with a 4-2 final score. The Reds, who improved their record to 50-55, overcame a mid-game deficit and a strong pitching performance from the Cardinals' starter, thanks to some timely hitting that kept them in the game against a team with a better record.

Cincinnati broke the scoreless tie first, getting on the board in the top of the fourth inning when Stephenson hit a ground rule double, allowing Bleday to score and putting the Reds up 1-0. However, the Cardinals responded swiftly in the bottom of the fifth. Jordan ripped a double to left field, which brought both Church and Herrera across home plate, giving the favored Cardinals a 2-1 lead. This rally came despite a solid outing from St. Louis's Dustin May, who pitched six strong innings, striking out eight and surrendering just one earned run.

The Reds, however, refused to be silenced, and Eugenio SuΓ‘rez emerged as a key offensive force. In the top of the seventh, SuΓ‘rez launched a majestic 435-foot home run to left-center field, bringing Stewart home and dramatically reclaiming the lead for Cincinnati, 3-2. SuΓ‘rez showcased an impressive night at the plate, collecting two hits, including his pivotal home run, driving in two runs, and scoring once himself.

Cincinnati then added a crucial insurance run in the final frame to cement their upset. In the top of the ninth, Stewart singled to left, allowing De La Cruz to score and extend the Reds' advantage to 4-2. The bullpen held the line, closing out the game and securing a hard-fought win for the Reds, dropping the Cardinals' record to 53-53 in a surprising turn of events.
