The Houston Astros, entering the contest as the favored team, lived up to expectations by defeating the Miami Marlins 8-5. The win pushed Houston's record to 53-55, while Miami fell to 52-55. The Marlins initially struck first, grabbing a lead in the top of the second inning when Mack launched a 409-foot home run to right field, bringing Marsee home and putting Miami up 2-0.

However, the game's turning point arrived swiftly in the bottom half of the second, as the Astros erupted for six runs to seize firm control. Trammell's single to right brought Wade Jr. across the plate, cutting the deficit to one. The floodgates then opened when Peña connected on a 340-foot blast to right, a grand slam that scored Diaz, Dezenzo, and Spence, rocketing Houston into a 5-2 lead. Yordan Alvarez then capped off the explosive inning with his first home run of the day, a 428-foot shot to right center, extending Houston's advantage to 6-2.

Miami attempted to chip away at the formidable lead, narrowing the gap in the top of the fourth when Hicks sent a 393-foot two-run homer to right, scoring Edwards and making it a 6-4 game. But Alvarez was not done, adding an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth with his second solo home run of the afternoon, a 419-foot drive to right center, pushing the score to 7-4. Ronel Blanco, who tossed 4.2 innings with 8 strikeouts despite surrendering 4 earned runs, helped keep the Marlins offense mostly in check through the middle frames.

The Astros further solidified their position in the seventh inning as Altuve singled to center, allowing Paredes to score and bringing the tally to 8-4. The Marlins managed to scratch across one more run in the ninth when Hernández singled to left, scoring Sanoja, but it was too little, too late. Alvarez's dominant day at the plate, finishing with three hits including his two home runs, two RBI, and two runs scored, proved instrumental in securing the victory for the favored Astros.
