McNeil delivered a pivotal single to center field, driving in both Butler and Langeliers and putting Oakland back ahead 4-2. The inning wasn't over there, as the Athletics managed to tack on an additional run. White capitalized on a Ginkel wild pitch to score, further extending Oakland's lead to 5-2, a significant boost that ultimately decided the contest.

From that point on, the Athletics' bullpen held firm, preserving the lead forged in the seventh. Jeffrey Springs delivered a top pitching performance for the Athletics, allowing just two earned runs over 5.0 innings while striking out two batters.
