The Los Angeles Angels, entering the contest with a 42-64 record but favored in the pregame market, lived up to their implied probability with a dramatic 3-2 walk-off victory over the St. Louis Cardinals (53-52). Despite their underdog record relative to St. Louis, it was the Cardinals who struck first. In the top of the second inning, Brendan Donovan Church singled to right field, bringing Nolan Walker home to put St. Louis on the board. The Cardinals extended their lead to 2-0 later in the inning when Jordan grounded out to third, allowing Lars Nootbaar to score.

The Angels, however, quickly began to chip away at the deficit. In the bottom of the third, Jo Adell launched a 389-foot solo home run to left center, cutting the Cardinals' lead to a single run. From that point on, Angels starter Jose Soriano took control, delivering a stellar performance. Soriano pitched 7.0 strong innings, fanning seven Cardinals hitters and allowing just the two early earned runs, keeping the game at a tight 2-1 scoreline through the middle frames and giving his team a chance to rally.

The tension built to a crescendo in the bottom of the ninth inning. With the Cardinals clinging to their slim one-run advantage, the Angels mounted their comeback. David Grissom ripped a double to right field, allowing Jose Peraza to sprint home with the tying run after an umpire review upheld the call on the field. With the score knotted at 2-2 and the winning run on base, Jo Adell, already responsible for the Angels' first run, was hit by a pitch. This forced in the game-winning run as Ramon Siri trotted home from third, clinching a thrilling 3-2 victory for Los Angeles. Adell finished the day with an impressive two hits, including his crucial home run, and two RBI, playing a pivotal role in the Angels' comeback win.
