Seattle Mariners vs Houston Astros — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Houston Astros rallied from an early two-run deficit to secure a dramatic walk-off victory against the Seattle Mariners in extra innings. A back-and-forth affair saw the lead change hands multiple times in the late stages, with Houston ultimately prevailing in the 10th inning after battling from behind throughout the game.

Seattle initially pulled ahead when J.P. Crawford launched a 383-foot solo home run to right field in the first inning. Raley then extended the Mariners’ lead to two with a 356-foot solo shot to left in the sixth. However, the Astros quickly countered in the bottom of the sixth with Walker hitting a 338-foot solo homer, followed by Jose Altuve drawing a walk that allowed Shewmake to score, tying the game at 2-2. Altuve later put Houston ahead in the eighth, driving in Matthews with a sacrifice fly to center.

The Mariners refused to concede, knotting the score once more in the top of the ninth when Rodríguez drew a walk, sending Refsnyder home and setting up extra innings. The bottom of the sixth inning proved pivotal for the Astros, as they immediately erased Seattle’s expanded lead, seizing momentum that carried through Altuve’s subsequent go-ahead RBI in the eighth. Lance McCullers Jr. kept the Astros in contention with 5.1 innings pitched, striking out six while yielding just two earned runs despite giving up both Seattle home runs.

Houston's persistent offense and ability to answer Seattle's scoring plays, particularly their immediate response in the sixth, were key to their comeback. Timely hitting in critical moments allowed them to overcome multiple deficits and clinch the extra-inning win. The Astros improved their record to 64-62, while the Mariners fell to 59-67.
