Philadelphia Phillies vs Boston Red Sox — Recap

📰Game Recap

Boston secured a tight 3-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies, with timely home runs providing all of their offense against a strong pitching effort from Sonny Gray. The Red Sox broke a late tie with a two-run shot in the sixth inning and held on for the win.

The Red Sox initially took the lead in the second inning when Story launched a 424-foot solo home run to center field. Philadelphia quickly answered in the top of the third as Crawford hit a 403-foot blast of his own to center, evening the score at 1-1. The game remained deadlocked until the bottom of the sixth inning.

The decisive blow came in the sixth frame when Ceddanne Rafaela connected for a 376-foot, two-run homer to left-center, scoring Abreu and giving Boston a 3-1 advantage. This crucial swing provided the Red Sox with the final margin of victory. On the mound, Sonny Gray delivered a dominant outing for Boston, pitching six strong innings, fanning six batters, and allowing only one earned run, effectively stifling the Phillies' lineup through the middle innings and setting the stage for his team's offense to break the tie.

Ultimately, Boston's combination of just enough power at the plate and a masterful performance from their starting pitcher proved to be the difference in a closely contested game. The Red Sox now stand at 67-58, while the Phillies dropped to 67-59.
