The game began as a seesaw battle, with Arizona drawing first blood in the top of the first when Moreno doubled home Perdomo. Washington quickly responded in the bottom of the second with a Young single that scored House, tying the game at one. The Diamondbacks reclaimed the lead in the third on a solo homer from Perdomo, only for CJ Abrams to answer immediately for the Nationals with a solo shot to center in the bottom half of the inning, a call that was confirmed after umpire review, knotting the score once more.

Arizona continued to push ahead, with Marte hitting a solo home run in the fourth, giving the Diamondbacks a 3-2 lead. They extended that advantage to 4-2 in the fifth when Moreno hit a sacrifice fly, bringing Carroll home. However, the turning point arrived swiftly in the bottom of the fifth. Washington erupted for four runs, beginning with a two-run blast from Wood that tied the game at four. Moments later, CJ Abrams connected for his second homer of the night, a two-run shot to center, putting the Nationals ahead 6-4 and completing the crucial shift in momentum.

The Nationals built on their lead significantly in the seventh inning, adding three more runs. House doubled to score Crews, followed by Young's double that brought House home. An infield single by García Jr. then scored Young on a throwing error by the pitcher, pushing Washington's advantage to 9-4. Arizona managed to claw back one run in the top of the eighth with a sacrifice fly from Locklear, making it 9-5, but Washington immediately negated that with another solo home run from Wood in the bottom of the frame, extending their lead to 10-5.

The Diamondbacks made a final attempt at a rally in the ninth. Waldschmidt singled to left, scoring Carroll, and later, Moreno scored on an Arenado ground out, narrowing the deficit to 10-7. Despite the late push, Washington closed out the victory, securing the upset. CJ Abrams was the standout performer at the plate for the Nationals, collecting three hits, including his two pivotal home runs, driving in three runs, and scoring twice. Miles Mikolas recorded the top pitching performance for Washington, pitching 4.0 innings, allowing 3 earned runs, and striking out one.
